How to Survive Seventh Grade

January 15, 2020
We’ve all been there. Well, at least most of us. It’s your first day of seventh grade, and all that’s on your mind is “How am I supposed to find my classes?” or, “How do lockers even work?” Well, I’m going to share 10 steps to get through this awkward, but exciting year!
- First things first, you need to start your school year with making plenty of friends! It’s important to surround yourself with encouraging people, rather than ones who make poor decisions or always cause drama.
- Speaking of drama, don’t get caught up in it! Drama can hurt friendships, spread unnecessary rumors, and hurt feelings.
- On that note, always do right and be kind! If you’ve been at Chaffin for a while now, you probably know that this is one of Mr.Marshal’s common sayings. Doing what’s right and showing compassion to others can set off a good year for not only you, but those who you’re being kind to.
- One very important part of seventh grade is to not worry too much about relationships. Not everyone’s at the same maturity level and most 7th grade relationships don’t last very long, so don’t stress about it!
- Another important part of junior high is staying organized. Now that you’re not in elementary anymore, you have to keep up with your stuff a lot more independently. You can make sure your locker, backpack, and papers are stored neatly in its place so that you don’t have to worry about losing anything in the future.
- Furthermore, stop procrastinating and study for that upcoming test! Tests often count for a ton of points so make sure you score the highest possible. It could save not only your habits of not studying, but your GPA, too.
- If you do get in some drama, which is inevitable, learn how to take care of the situation. Try determining what’s important enough to care about by asking yourself, “Will this matter in a year from now?” Consider their feelings and, although it can be hard, apologize if you’re in the wrong. It makes things a lot easier later when you work through it now.
- One of the very important parts of junior high is getting involved. You can join clubs like FCA, Partners in Christ, Coding Club, Book Club, Optimist Club, etc. There are many options and it’s a great way to make new friends!
- A very important thing I’ve learned over the past few years is that you shouldn’t waste time worrying about what others think of you. As long as your kind to others and be yourself, others will respect that! I know this step is very cheesy, but it’s imperative to having a relaxing year.
Last, but certainly not least, try your hardest in school! Set good habits of trying to make good grades so that it’s easier, and more expected, when you’re older. It’s not like you have to make all A’s, but don’t settle for any grade you think is low.
