Marlene Hernandez

This year, two runners from Chaffin’s cross country team have caught the eye of many. Angel Hernandez and Elizabeth Files are the top runners at Chaffin Junior High. Elizabeth Files is currently in ninth grade and has placed top 10 in previous meets. At Today’s Bank Mansfield XC Invitational, she competed with girls from 36 different teams and came in seventh place with a time of 11:39.7! She also placed at the Fort Smith Invitational coming in 6th place with a time of 14:47.50. She is an excellent student and an outstanding runner.

Angel Hernandez is an eighth-grader and has carried the guy’s team with a couple seeing him as a role model. In Today’s Bank Mansfield XC Invitational, he went against 36 different teams, ranging from seventh to ninth grade. He managed to come in 24th while setting himself a new PR of 10:49.72 in the 3k race. Many who came before him were all ninth graders and three or five were seventh or eighth graders. Both Chaffin runners did outstanding and have many great things coming their way.

Both runners have also set the all time top record for their group at Chaffin Junior High. Elizabeth Files currently holds a time of 11:39.7 in the 3000m and Angel Hernandez holds a time of 10:49.72 in the 3000m as well. They have done absolutely amazing things and sense new PRs coming their way. I wish them luck on their next meet in Greenwood on October 8th and their last conference meet in Van Buren later this month. Good Luck!
