Winter Holidays

Melanie Peck

A lot of people only know about Christmas being a winter holiday, but there are so many different holidays such as Hanukkah, Saint Nicholas Day, Yule (Winter Solstice), Diwali, Kwanzaa, and many others.

Each of these holidays starts at all different times and are celebrated differently from the others. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday, and the people of Russia celebrate Saint Nicholas Day. Germanic people are the ones who typically celebrate Yule, and Kwanzaa is celebrated by African Americans. The Hindu people celebrate Diwali.

Most people don’t know of any other holidays except for Christmas and Hanukkah. Many people in your school celebrate more than one winter holiday, and some people don’t celebrate winter holidays at all. Holidays are different all around the world, and are celebrated differently as well.
