About 115 Inmates at a St. Louis Jail escaped their cells, broke windows, and set fires in their unit on Saturday, officials said.  The disturbance at the City Justice Center began around 2:30 a.m. when a “defiant detainee” got into a scuffle with a corrections officer.

Officials say – A faulty lock system was to blame for a security breach that allowed inmates to take over a section of a St.Louis Jail.

Inmates at St. Louis Jail set fires, caused flooding, broke out fourth-floor windows, and tossed a stationary bike, chairs, mattresses, and other things outside on Saturday in the latest disturbance over concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions that have limited visits and stalled court proceedings, which may have been the reasoning on why they rioted.  Dozens of law enforcement officers worked for hours before bringing the riot to a standstill.
