Chaffin Relays

Track is a series of athletic events which include relay, high hurdles,  and low hurdles. To be approximate, there are at least about 17 events in a track meet but we’ll only discuss some. There are 4 different meter relays you had to do in the track meet which included the 4x800m relay, 4x400m relay, 4x200m relay, and the 4x100m relay. There are also different meter hurdles you had including 110/100m high hurdles and 300m intermediate/low hurdles. Track can be fun for the ones viewing and cheering on the students, but that’s way different for the students doing it because that would be very tiring for them. Personally, I really like track meets, but if i was doing it in front of a lot of students and parents, even teachers, I would just make a fool of myself.

Some of the relays are very long, you would have to run around the whole track, and that is a really long track to run around. Doing it twice can be very challenging, and you could be stressing a lot about it depending on how you did. When I go to track meets, most of the students are stressed out and upset because they don’t know if they did good, bad, or alright.  Hurdles are the most challenging and, you would have to have some strong legs to run while jumping some big hurdles.

Hurdles for some may be the easiest, because while with relays you run around the track twice while trying to beat the other school/team, hurdles you basically jump over obstacles while trying to beat the other school/team, and sometimes people can have a little accident and fall on their face trying to jump.  The standard hurdle race for men is 110m and for women is 100m.  Both of the divisions have a 300m race though at the end.  On Tuesday, March 30th, Chaffin hosted their 9th grade Chaffin Relays. Chaffin swept the meet, winning first place in the girls and boys division. The girls team topped the rankings with 125.5 points, and boys blew away the competition with 155 points. Kari Carter was the high scoring girl with 26 points, and Bryant Hasley was the high scoring boy with 31.25 points. Great job Cougars!
