Spaghetti: The History Behind the Food

Allyson Hayes

Have you ever tried spaghetti? I think it’s pretty good but some people disagree with me. It’s one of my favorite foods and I love to cook it. This is the history behind spaghetti.

The history of spaghetti goes back to the 20th century. People believe that spaghetti originated in Italy but some people say that Marco Polo brought it back from China. The earliest spaghetti/pasta was common in the east and it was created with rice flour. Italy used wheat to create the thin, long noodles we are used to seeing in spaghetti dishes. Most spaghetti is made in a pot of boiling water while sometimes stirring in some sauce in the noodles. Spaghetti is sometimes put in other dishes like spaghetti squash. The average amount of time spaghetti need to cook is eight to twelve minutes.

Now that you know a bit more about the history of spaghetti, you might try it again and like it. Learning about spaghetti was pretty interesting to me. History can be surprisingly important when it comes to cooking food.
