Haas Hall, a charter school, is officially coming to Fort Smith, and will open in August of 2023. Parents can currently enroll their students in this school for the following year.
First off, there is a difference between charter schools, public schools, and private schools. Charter schools are schools that are publicly funded, but are independent and are schools that students enroll by choice. Public schools are schools that are publicly funded, and students are placed in them based on where they live. Private schools are schools that are funded and ran independently.
Haas Hall has a lottery system for students to get accepted in the school for all the branches. There are 4 branches, making the one coming to Fort Smith the 5th branch. For the first year in Fort Smith, the school is taking anyone that applies. Haas Hall’s goal is to reach around 16 students per class. The next school year (2024-2025), they will begin the lottery system too. “You can never go wrong with getting further and advancing your college studies,” Chaffin student Airani Gutierrez had mentioned. This school prepares you for college by spending class time in preparations for college. This school also allows you to take career-focused classes that you plan on majoring or taking in college. “It seems as though their students do really well academically,” Chaffin student Evelyn Chung mentioned. The branch in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is ranked the number 1 high school and is nationally recognized.
Although, this school does have a uniform, it is not a bad thing, but that may be a deal breaker for some. Also, the class size is quite small to some people. Nonetheless, the school’s purpose is important and can help students who have big goals in life. With the smaller class sizes, teachers can very easily keep an eye on their students.
Haas Hall can be very helpful in going to higher level schools and getting more advanced preparation. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it is here in Fort Smith for anyone who wants to go there and who is prepared to go there.
